Benjamin Brown
Artist’s Statement
Benjamin Brown explores the boundaries of tension, balance, and surrender in his sculptures. As a reflection of the tumult in both interior and exterior worlds, he plays with conflict, using the tenacity and fragility of glass as a counterpoint to the weight and substance of steel. Using successive iterations of form in his slumped glass pieces, he expands the metaphor of layered reality and emotion through the interaction of translucency and rigidity, examining from inside and out the role of Self in World, and points to the idea of worlds contained in the self.
