Artist’s Bio
Raised in Powdersville, SC, Matthew’s artistic growth began with nothing more than a love for Legos – the building, the architecture, the creation. Summers spent camping across the country fostered a love for the outdoors. His art today marries these two (perhaps dichotomous) passions, combining strong architectural lines and natural archetypes.
He began his training in the mid 1990s. Before establishing his own studio, Matthew worked both under a master jeweler, then for an established retail store for nearly 14 years. Today, he continues in that commitment to this evolution, and his art reflects his growth.
Artist’s Statement
Matthew Campbell designs and creates custom jewelry and mixed media pieces characterized by their contemporary feel and strong architectural lines. His work is both elegant and functional, drawing upon simple concepts to create a diverse yet harmonious collection. Through jewelry he’s found the ideal outlet for combining form and function and is committed to both stunning design and durability.
Over the past few years, Matthew has focused on his floating-ring series. His floating rings feature a stone that is supported by a single prong, giving the ring a unique look and providing the stone with the most possible light. These rings are noted for their strong lines and unique color combinations in stones.
Recently, Matthew has incorporated other media into his work, including hand-crafted sterling chain, leather, paper and found objects. He’s expanded his line to include written word pendants, photo etching and vintage charms.
